Hope now. Find healing and support with an individual therapy intensive.
You are not broken,
your heart is.
You might be stunned right now. You have just lost someone you love dearly and you're feeling adrift and frightened.
Or you've lost someone in the past and a new life experience is bringing the grief up all over again.
Living after the loss of a loved one, a baby, your health, or a relationship is painful.
Whatever loss you are dealing with I'm glad you found your way here.
Grief is a healthy, sane response to loss. It's not something to "get over" or "move through".
It can be extremely disorientating and can make you feel crazy, but you are not crazy.
Grief is extremely painful but it's not "bad".
Grief shows us who and what we love dearly.
As you go through your life, grief will change and new challenges will present themselves with new experiences. That is why it's normal to seek grief counseling even if years have passed since your loss.
Regardless of the source of your grief, all grieving is legitimate and needs to be attended to.
Grief has no expiration date.
And because I don't believe grief is something to be fixed, I don't see you as something to be fixed.
I believe that sometimes we can't feel our grief because we're busy taking care of others.
I believe that because of that, blocks can form, hard spots where we feel far from our feelings. Maybe even deadened inside.
And those blocks stop us from having relationships with others, including with the deceased
Together, and with my training in Emotionally Focused Therapy we'll explore what grief has been like for you. We'll root out any blocks, any guilt that sits in your heart.
I believe that through our work you'll begin to feel more alive, more connected to your core, and more able to live life even with the loss you've suffered.
I will provide you with a place to say "this hurts" without judgement, platitudes or impatience. A place to ponder who you are now without your person, pregnancy, or marriage. A time to remember your loved one. In our meetings you can take all the time you need.
I will gently remind you to practice small acts of self-care. Not because this will necessarily diminish your pain but because you deserve kindness every day.
I've got big, wide shoulders and I can handle all your big feelings.
I understand why you might not feel safe in the world right now. That laughter might feel like betrayal. That sometimes you feel very angry.
Therapy for grief and loss will be a safe space to consider what lies ahead.
Grief is a natural and necessary part of the healing process.
Moving on is a myth
While often associated with death, grief can arise from a wide range of losses, including (but not limited to):
-
The loss of a bond with someone you love
-
Death of a pet
-
A terminal diagnosis
-
Loss of a pregnancy
-
The end of a relationship
-
Loss of a dream, an identity, a purpose
-
Loss of trust or betrayal
Society often pressures us to 'move on' after a loss, especially when we have demanding careers and family responsibilities. This can leave us feeling isolated and unable to authentically express our grief.
